History of Sowing Seeds

I was studying to receive my PhD in Medicinal Chemistry when I became aware of the healing properties of fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, herbs, and grains. I was amazed while browsing through the articles in The Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry, The Journal of Food Science, and various other scientific journals the amount of ‘medicine’ found in our food supply. I started to ask questions, Why are we so sick if all of our medicine can be found in our food? Why are we seeing so many diseases here in the United States? My research project in graduate school was to find the biologically active components in the plant kingdom (ie our food supply) and try to synthesize them in a chemistry lab to create the next new blockbuster drug or supplement. For some reason, this did not seem to be right to me, that is, taking what was already naturally produced and try to artificially or synthetically make it. I did some further reading and found that actually synthesized molecules perform differently in the body then if one is to take in the molecule in its natural state, that is, in the apple or the chamomile or the onion. This lead me to take steps in experimenting with herbs, fruits, vegetables, nuts, grains, and seeds and to study how cultures and societies of the past used these substances and achieved optimal health and low prevalence of diseases. I started to study how to prepare foods the way our ancestors prepared them and found dramatic changes for the better in flavor, my health, my sleep patterns, and my mental clarity. I knew there was something to this.

I started experimenting with various herbal and food preparation on myself, then I would try to ‘heal’ my friends. In other words, giving the body what it needs, the proper foods, to heal itself. That is the amazing aspect of our bodies; they were designed to be able to heal themselves, now we just need to discover what the original diet was that man was given. In the beginning of the history of man, man lived for 100s of more years then we do now. The original diet given to man consisted of fruits, nuts, seeds, and herbs. These foods were always taken in alive and fresh and grown in soil that was perfectly balanced and extremely fertile. This original diet, is the perfect diet prescribed to man. Only in perfection, in a perfect world, could we subsist on this diet, but we live in a flawed world where this diet is not as readily available as it was in the beginning. What we can do now is take some of the principles of the original diet and apply them to our diets today. In this way, we will be intaking many of the benefits that man received while subsisting off the fruits of God’s creation.

At Sowing Seeds, this is what we do, we try to take the principles from the past and incorporate them into our current society. We know many cultures of the past primarily subsisted on plant based diets, this is why we did not see the prevalence of heart disease, diabetes, cancer, mood disorders, ADHD, the list could go on for quite a long time. Not only do we incorporate the principles from the past for our health food preparations but we use techniques, wisdom, and skills from the past to make herbal products that help in stimulating the body to fight disease. It is truly an amazing thing, God says, “…the leaves of the trees are for the healing of the nations.” May God bless the time you have spent on this site looking for healthful foods, skin care, and herbal products. We truly try to design products to the best of our ability and knowledge to benefit you, the consumer, and allow you a chance to experience the blessings of good health.

Thank you.
